Alexis Baró
About

Alexis Baró is a Cuban-born trumpet virtuoso, composer, and arranger whose work bridges tradition and innovation. Based in Toronto since 2001, he has built a prolific career spanning more than 200 recordings and collaborations with global jazz icons. His warm tone, technical brilliance, and lyricism define a voice rooted in Afro-Cuban heritage and contemporary jazz expression. His 2025 release, Afrokando, marks his debut as a big-band arranger and represents a major creative leap. Recorded at Revolution Studios in Toronto, the album revitalizes the Afro-Cuban Big Band tradition through a modern lens, featuring standout soloists including Danae Olano, Paco Luviano, Jorge Maza, Jeremy Ledbetter, Ángel Luis Márquez, and Frank Martínez.
Baró has performed with Herbie Hancock, Paquito D’Rivera, Michael Bublé, Andrea Bocelli, and Omara Portuondo, among others. A classically trained musician from Havana’s Amadeo Roldán Conservatory, he is also a dedicated educator whose workshops and masterclasses across the Caribbean and North America underscore his role as a cultural ambassador for Cuban music.
